Effect of sodium hydroxide pretreatment on released sugar yields from pomelo peels for biofuel production

چکیده

Most of the agricultural wastes in developing countries are disposed by on-site combustion leading to unmanaged environmental pollutions. Conversion value-added products, such as bioethanol and biogas, is a promising method reduce agro-waste after harvesting seasons. In this study, Citrus maxima peels (Pomelo peels) was selected be converted reducing sugars, which could raw material produce other products. To promote enzymatic hydrolysis reactions, pomelo were pretreated with sodium hydroxide variations three pretreatment parameters, including temperature (50-100 ºC), time (0.5-6 h), concentration NaOH (0.5-3.0 M). Box-Behnken design (BBD) applied Response Surface Methodology (RSM) determine optimized condition find relationship between factors sugar yields. The predicted optimal determined at 94.28 ºC, 4.5h, 2.17M yield 98.9 mg/g dried peels. results clearly showed that yields obtained from 1.87 folds higher than untreated biomass (52.81 peels). Therefore, study demonstrated potential used an alternative for products rather being landfill or causal agent pollution.

Pretreatment optimization methods for increased sugar yields from biomass pyrolysis

In the search for a renewable energy source that could replace petroleum and other nonrenewable energy sources, pyrolysis of biomass is a hopeful alternative and pretreatment could further improve its potential. There are several possible routes for pretreating lignocellulosic biomass, but many need further refining before becoming economical. The main obstacle for the conversion of biomass to ...

Cosolvent pretreatment in cellulosic biofuel production: effect of tetrahydrofuran-water on lignin structure and dynamics†

The deconstruction of cellulose is an essential step in the production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass. However, the presence of lignin hinders this process. Recently, a novel cosolvent based biomass pretreatment method called CELF (Cosolvent Enhanced Lignocellulosic Fractionation) which employs tetrahydrofuran (THF) in a single phase mixture with water, was found to be highly effective...

Sodium hydroxide pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis of coastal Bermuda grass.

Coastal Bermuda grass was pretreated with NaOH at concentrations from 0.5% to 3% (w/v) for a residence time from 15 to 90min at 121 degrees C. The pretreatments were evaluated based on total lignin removal and production of total reducing sugars, glucose and xylose from enzymatic hydrolysis of the pretreated biomass. Up to 86% lignin removal was observed. The optimal NaOH pretreatment condition...
